(Berks County, Pa.) — Cumru Township Commissioners presented the township’s Economic Development Award to The Heritage of Green Hills, a retirement community under construction in Berks County.

The award, presented at the October 18 township meeting, honors local businesses and individuals that provide exemplary service and dedication to the goals and vision of Cumru Township to ensure its success in the future.

Cumru Township Commissioners selected The Heritage of Green Hills for the award because the community will have a significant and positive economic impact on the surrounding area.

The Heritage of Green Hills will be built in three phases, carrying a total cost of $140 million and creating 200 new jobs. In addition, the completed community will generate hundreds of thousands in tax revenues that will benefit local governments without burdening schools or roadways.

“The Heritage of Green Hills is already beginning to increase economic vitality up and down the Route 10 corridor,” said Jeanne Johnston, Cumru Township’s Planning Commissioner. “We’ve already received calls from doctors and other senior-focused companies that are hoping to establish their businesses near the community.”

When complete, The Heritage of Green Hills will include more than 460 apartments and 39 villas and will be home to more than 800 residents. The community will begin welcoming residents in fall 2008.
