On Saturday, September 13, The Heritage of Green Hills hosted more than 150 veterans, World War II enthusiasts and members of the public at a special release event for Stephen Wagner and Sharon Wells Wagner’s latest book, Ordinary Heroes: Untold Stories of World War II.
The mother-and-son co-authors signed copies of Ordinary Heroes, which features stories based on extensive interviews with more than 60 World War II veterans, many of whom have ties to Berks County. Several veterans featured in the book answered questions about their experiences.
State Senator Michael O’Pake and Berks County Commissioner Christian Leinbach attended the event, expressed their appreciation for the service and commitment of the veterans present, and presented the Heritage of Green Hills with a Pennsylvania state flag.
“The veterans who attended were overwhelmed that so many people wanted to shake their hand and thank them for their service,” said author Sharon Wells. “Most of them had never been recognized for their service in WWII, and suddenly, 65 years after the war is over, they were being honored and in such a gracious way. I’m grateful to the Heritage for making it all possible.”
This is the second book by Sharon Wells Wagner, who also wrote the highly regarded Red Wells: An American Soldier in World War II, a recounting of her father’s transformative experiences during that conflict.
